Boston Scavenger Hunt

YOUTH GROUP SCAVENGER HUNT – BOSTON

Rules:
  • Stay safe! If you get separated from your group or otherwise need help call your leader.
  • You can capture only one location or target in each picture (higher value prevails).
  • At a minimum one team member needs to be in each photo.

Winning:
  • The team with the most points wins.
  • In a rare occurrence of a tie, Rock, Paper, Scissors will determine the winner.
  • The last photo must be taken no later than 5:00 PM.

Backbay:

Hatch Shell (15 pts) – Outdoor concert venue adjacent to the Charles River. It was originally built in 1928.

Trinity Church (15 pts) – Founded in 1773. The former church burned down in the Great Boston Fire of 1872 and was rebuilt in its current location in 1877.


Beacon Hill:

Acorn Street (15 pts) – The most photographed street in the city. So let’s add a few more!

Cheers Pub (15 pts) - Formerly the Bull and Finch pub. It was used as the exterior of the bar from the sitcom Cheers.

Make Way for Ducklings Statues (25 pts) – Children’s book published in 1941 tells the story of a family of ducks who want to raise their family on the island in the lagoon of the Boston Public Garden.


Charlestown:

Bunker Hill Monument (25 pts) – Completed in 1842 marks the site of the first major battle of the American Revolution.

Old Ironsides (25 pts) – The USS Constitution is the world’s oldest floating commissioned navel vessel launched in 1797.


Faneuil Hall:

Union Oyster House (20 pts) – The oldest restaurant in the United States.

Holocaust Memorial (20 pts) – Six luminous glass towers each reaching 54 feet high.

Bell in Hand (20 pts) – Longest continuously operating tavern and 2nd oldest in the United States.


Fenway/Kenmore:

Famous Citgo Sign (20 pts) – It has been a part of the Boston skyline since 1940

The Green Monster (25 pts) – thirty-seven foot, two inch left field wall at Fenway Pahhhk

Cy Young Statue at the old Huntington Ave Grounds (40 pts) – This is the site of the first World Series game ever played.

Ted Williams Statue (15 pts) – Depicts the hall of fame baseball player placing his hat on a boy


Government Center:

Boston City Hall (15 pts) – Voted “The Ugliest Building in Boston”. It was built in 1969. It needs to come down as soon as possible.

Old State House (20 pts) – Built in 1773. After the American Revolution, it served as the seat of the Massachusetts state government until operations moved to the present Massachusetts State House in 1798.
North End:

Paul Revere’s House (30 pts) – Built in 1680 is the colonial home of American Patriot.

Old North Church (25 pts) The location from which the famous "One if by land, and two if by sea" signal is said to have been sent.

Paul Revere Statue (20 pts) - This night-time messenger rode horseback from Boston to Lexington just before the battles of Lexington and Concord. His famous "Midnight Ride" occurred on the night of April 18/April 19, 1775.

Reginas Pizzeria (15 pts) – Founded in 1926 – A staple of the North End.


Seaport:

Hood Milk Bottle (50 pts) – 40 foot tall structure. It would hold 50,000 gallons if it were real.

Institute of Contemporary Art (35 pts) – Completed in 2006, the building’s design has been celebrated by many critics for its design.

The Aquarium (20 pts) - Founded in 1969 on the city's waterfront, it is considered one of the first modern public aquariums and is credited with revolutionizing the modern aquarium experience for visitors through its emphasis on a more natural setting for aquatic life.


South End:

Christian Science Reflection Pool (25 pts) – Constructed in the 1970s as part of a large Christian Science Plaza the pool reflects the surrounding buildings.

Symphony Hall (20 pts) - Built in 1900 for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, which continues to make the hall its home. The hall was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1999. It was then noted that "Symphony Hall remains, acoustically, among the top three concert halls in the world and is considered the finest in the United States."


West End:

Bobby Orr Statue (15 pts) – The famous picture from “The Goal” from the 1970 Stanly Cup recreated.

Zakim Bridge (5 pts) – The world’s widest cable-stayed bridge.
Cambridge:

MIT - Stata building (25 pts) - Designed by Frank Gehry. Wired magazine dubbed it the “Geek Palace”

John Harvard Statue (45 pts)– Sculpted by Daniel Chester French, known by Harvard tour guides as the statue of three lies, claims that it depicts John Harvard, Founder, 1638, but in reality Harvard was a contributor, not the founder; the institution was founded in 1636; and the statue is actually a likeness of someone else. French used a student as a model

Picture at a college in Boston with a sign indicating you are in said college (5 pts)
